About THE WhYTe's & HaRLoW's FRoM PLyMoUtH to PHiLaDeLpHiA. 

Hi,
 I've been working on updating my Mother's Family History book that I inherited  20 years ago after she passed away. I was never interested in Genealogy, and  found it boring, but one day I picked up our Family History book  and I  haven't been able to put it down since.
    Right now my goal is to trace my roots , from Plymouth Ma. To Phila. Pa.  From Scotland to Ireland, and from England to Jamaica. 
 I am in the process of joining "The Mayflower Society" also "Alden Kindred of  America". I am a current member of "The Sgt. William Harlow Family  Association. On my journey I have come across some very interesting things,  and also some things that I should have left in the closet. My Mother would  have been Shocked!!
    My Father Herbert Whyte's Family is from Manchester Jamaica. My G-G-G  Grandfather, David Hutchison was the first owner on record of "Coffee Grove  Plantation". He had 7 children with Elizabeth Hunt freed woman of color. They  never married, but David left her and the children a sizable inheritance.  One of their Daughters Elen Hutchison my G-G-Grandmother married David Whyte  who was from Yorkshire England. The Plantation "Coffee Grove" was passed down  through the generations until the final owners, my Grandparents, Hedley Whyte  and Maud Isaacs. Maud was from Kingston, Jamaica. They sold the Plantation to  the United Fruit Company of Jamaica, now known as Chiquita Banana. They came  to the U.S., Philadelphia, Pa. on the S.S.Bella in 1908.
    My Mother, Olive Charlotte Harlow was born and raised in Plymouth Ma (1924- 1986). Irma Beatrice Coleman , Olive's Mother, was the only child of Captain  George L. Coleman and Charlotte Hilton Paull, both of Taunton Ma. Olive's  Father was Andrew Elec Harlow, who was born and raised in Plymouth, Ma.. He  served in W.W.I., and was a cranberry farmer, in the Manomet section of  Plymouth. After my Grandmother, Irma Beatrice Coleman died in 1945, my Mother  Olive moved to Philadelphia, Pa with the clothes on her back, a few dollars in  her pocket, and the promise of a job in a Hospital in Philadelphia. She met  and married my Father, Herbert Newton Isaac Whyte. Herbert was 16 years her  Senior, and had 5 Young's daughter from a Previous marriage. After my Parents  were married they took My Dad's 5 Daughters out of an orphianage in  Philadelphia where they were placed shortley after their Mothers death. The  girls resented my Mother which made things at home very difficult, not to  mention the fact that we were  raised in an intercity ghetto, so combine the  two factors and it was a nightmare. I would have never survived without my  real Sister Irma. I credit her for my good sence of humor. She taught me how  to laugh through disasters and survive in one piece. SHe is my other half.    So to wrap up this happy story, My sister Irma is married with two  wonderful Children, who I love like my own. They are both world renowned Ice  Skaters. Her son, my nephew is now coaching my grandson Julian in Figure  skating and we have dreams of Julian being in the  Olympics someday. Maya my  Granddaughter who just turned 4 last month just started taking lessons, so  Julian and Maya will be fabulous pair skaters.
    As for me, I just retired from my government job after 15 years of service,  I have a beautiful home, a great husband, (finally after a few tries) who owns  his own business and is a great Father and Grandfather to my children and  Grandchildren. Since retiring I have the pleasure of sending alot of time with  my three grandchildren. I couldn't ask for a better life.
